Over the past 20 or so years, we have been pushing diversity and the benefits of a diverse workplace. We have been arguing that with diverse perspectives and experiences come new ideas and creativity. Study after study shows that companies win with more Diversity. It dosn’t matter if its Google’s stock price rising because of higher gender employment numbers or Nike’s Emmy for their Colin Kaepernick commercial, Diversity wins! Diversity – Starbucks

Two black men were arrested while sitting in Starbucks waiting for a friend to join them.The reason? A Starbuck’s employee called police because the men had not ordered anything, had used the restroom and were sitting at a table. Consequently,the employee determined the two men were loitering. What Happen Next at Starbucks ? Did an employee approach the two men and ask if they wished to order or to offer assistance? Last week, the arrest of two black men sitting in a Starbucks store waiting for a friend went viral, thanks to Melissa DePino. Her video of the arrest continues to show the unjust treatment of black and brown people in our country today. While patrons pleaded with officers that the men did nothing wrong and their friend arriving during the commotion; they were lead out in handcuffs. Arrested for waiting while black. In the early 1990’s, there was a push in Corporate America to hire more non-white males. Since then corporations have made a point to become more diverse. But in the last year, there has been a change in the attitude of our country. The Trump administration is proposing drastic changes in the “food stamp” program, now called SNAP. People getting that aid would lose much of their ability to choose the food they buy. Low-income Americans who receive at least $90 a month — just over 80 percent of all SNAP recipients — would get about half of their benefits in the form of a “USDA Foods package.” The package was described in the budget as consisting of “shelf-stable milk, ready to eat cereals, pasta, peanut butter, beans and canned fruit and vegetables.” The boxes would not include fresh fruits or vegetables.
